08 Jun Wouter de Moor releases on Ovum
With previous EPs on heavyweight imprints such as Get Physical and Poker Flat, Dutch up-and-comer Wouter de Moor’s latest release on Ovum Recordings maintains the strong upward trajectory towards the big leagues.
Fluf, a chrome-plated jacking banger, opens the EP with its menacing organ line, punctuated by punishing snare volleys and vocal cuts. A more subdued reinterpretation of the same track, Fluffy, retains many of the same musical elements and samples whilst dropping the tempo and energy to take things into trippy, late-night dub techno territory.
Data Dump is a hazy cascade of synth stabs and modulated hi-hats, which undulate throughout, whilst a simple yet effective four-to-the-floor beat drives things forward. Title track Brain Fog is a refreshing left turn, with sun-dappled ivory chords and peppy snare rolls that create unique, smooth house cut infused with soul and colour.
Muy Loco closes the release and sees de Moor deploying a clipped house beat, dry toms and a clever filtered riff that playfully dances throughout. Fun, intelligent techno from the Dutchman that leaves us wanting more.
